The Chairman of the Jigawa State Independent Election Commission (JISIEC), has expressed readiness of the commission’s in terms of the preparations ahead of the upcoming local government election slated for October 5, 2024 in the state.
The Chairman of the commission Auwal Harbo made this know in an interactive session with reporters on Wednesday in his office.
He said the commission had almost concluded all necessary preparations to ensure a smooth and credible electoral process.
He revealed that, so far, eleven (11) political parties have shown interest in participating in the election, demonstrating the vibrant democratic landscape in Jigawa.
“The commission has thoroughly screened all qualified candidates, ensuring their eligibility to contest in the election,” he said confidently.
Commenting on the prerequisites materials needed of the election, Mr Harbo explained that, “All sensitive and non-sensitive materials required for the election are currently in the commission’s possession, ready for distribution.”
Harbo added that, “To facilitate the electoral process, the commission has recruited election workers, including Return Officers, who will oversee the voting process in their respective Local Government Areas.
“These Returning Officers have been mandated to recruit adhoc staff in their areas to support the election,” the ES declared.
Furthermore, he revealed that, the commission have recruited 27 supervisors to provide oversight and guidance during the election across the 27 Local Government Areas.
Highlighting more on the targeted manpower to man the election, Mr. Harbo said, In total, the commission will recruit 14,794 staff, including 14 personnel that would be stationed at the State Collation Center, to ensure the election’s success.
However, the Chairman assured that, all measures have been taken to guarantee the security and peaceful conduct of the election.
He also mentioned that, To ensure the effectiveness of the recruited staff, the commission will provide comprehensive training soon.
“The commission is committed to conducting free, fair, and credible elections. JISIEC is ready for October 5, 2024 Local Government Poll,” the Chairman concluded.
