The Jigawa state police command said it has made some startling recoveries involving arms, motor vehicles, motorcycles, mobile phones among others in the last 10 days.
The command also explained that it has arrested not fewer than 20 persons for various offences within the period under review.
Addressing his maiden press conference in Dutse, the state capital, the newly appointed commissioner of police, Ahmed Tijani Abdullahi described the state as one of the less crime rate in the country.
The police chief explained that the command under his leadership succeeded in arresting 25 suspected thieves and vandals, three suspected kidnappers, 10 suspected armed robbers, two suspected human traffickers, arresting of 10 suspected motor vehicle and motorcycle thieves and three suspected mobile phone thieves.
Abdullahi added that “the command has recovered three fabricated local firearms, four motor vehicles, six motorcycles, N3,650,000 cash and nine android handsets”.
He stated further that also recovered includes 32 cows, five sheep vandalized armour cables and wares, Sesame, Millet and Groundnut valued at N450,000, 261 wraps of dry leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, 176 tablets of Exol etc.
According to him “the command will be guided on the security basic principles such as intelligence led policing, community policing, knowledge and collaboration with the sister security agencies to achieve a common goals achieve and maintain effective crime control, civil disorder control and reduction in fear of crime”.
He assured the people in the state that through hard work, professionalism and partnership to reduce crime and criminality to the barest minimum.
He therefore expressed gratitude to the inspector general of police Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun “for finding me worthy and deployed me here to serve as commissioner of police of this great state”.
He attributed the development to the level of understanding and cooperation of the public.
He also lauded the support of the Jigawa state government which has helped in bringing down considerably the rate of crime and criminalities in the state.
According to the police chief the command under him was working out modalities in collaboration with other sister security agencies towards ensuring that the state remained crime free especially with the approach of yuletide season.
The CP, who later addressed the senior of the command impressed upon them to work towards earning terhe trust and confidence of the larger populace.
He described security as a collective business of every Nigerians and appealed for the public understanding with the police as they toiled day and night to ensure the security of Nigerians.
