Jigawa Government Makes Case For Use Of Hijab By Female Security Operatives

The Jigawa state government has directed the three private security firms operating in the state to allow their young female workers to wear hijabs during their work in line with its objective of promoting decency in workplaces, especially for younger employees.

The decision was arrived at during during the regular state executive council (SEC) meeting held at the Council Chambers Government House Dutse with Governor Umar Namadi presiding.

The Commissioner for Information, Sagir Ahmed Musa who conveyed the Council’s resolution was in consonance with the state government’s efforts to provide an inclusive and enabling environment for all citizens, particularly women.

Already he said, the Council has since issued a directive to the three security guard companies operating in the state.

“These companies are to allow female security operatives among the 9,969 young people recruited to wear Hijabs while on duty, as a matter of religious and cultural accommodation.

“This decision follows a report presented by the Council Committee on Schools, Hospital, and Court Security, and reaffirms the administration’s support for respectful workplace policies that uphold modesty, inclusion, and dignity.”

Similarly, the commissioner disclosed that the Council at its sitting, ratified the release of the sum of N516.1 million for the purchase of 184 return tickets and one-way ticket for 185 Jigawa State students currently studying various medical and applied medical courses at Near East University, Cyprus, in preparation for the 2024/2025 academic session.

He added that the intervention underscores the government’s continued commitment to supporting the education and welfare of Jigawa’s students abroad, especially in critical fields such as medicine and healthcare.

Also the Council has approved the inauguration of the Jigawa State Creativity and Innovation Week (JISCIW) starting from 2025 . He remarked that the development of follows the presentation of a report by the Council Committee on Creativity and Innovation Development,

According to him, the creativity week would serve as a platform for identifying and showcasing, and supporting creative talents, especially in fields such as technology, designs, entrepreneurship, and the arts.

“This initiative reflects the administration’s commitment to promoting talent development among the youth and aims to foster a vibrant spirit of innovation, creativity, and enterprise across the state.”
