The Jigawa state governor Umar Namadi, has flagged off the Women Da’awah Programme, an initiative aimed at promoting religious enlightenment, family values, and community harmony among women in the state.
The programme, a collaborative efforts between the state government, the Council of Ulama, and other religious and community leaders, seeks to educate women on Islamic teachings, enhance their roles in family and community development, and promote peaceful coexistence based on the principles of justice, kindness, and mutual respect.
Under the programme, 574 women were selected from various parts of the state.
It is expected to provide structured learning sessions, mentorship, and outreach activities aimed at fostering spiritual growth, family stability, and social harmony in the state.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony in Dutse, Namadi emphasized the crucial role of women play in shaping the moral and ethical foundations of society, noting that the programme is designed to empower women with Islamic knowledge, strengthen family ties, and encourage righteous living among the citizens.
“Today, we are embarking on a journey that resonates deeply with our values and our vision of a society where every woman is educated, enlightened, empowered, and equipped to be a beacon of light and guidance and an ambassador of progress and development in our communities.
“As we all know, like it is all over the world, about half the population in the state are females, comprising mothers, sisters, and daughters, and the other half were all born by women. This underscores the enviable position of women in our society.”
The governor stressed the religious obligation of men to support and guide women, quoting the Qur’anic verse, which says that “Men are the caretakers of women,” and also referencing the Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) last sermon, in which he urged men to treat women well and be kind to them.
He lauded the state Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development for its dedication to the success of the programme, while acknowledging the key role played by his wife Hadiza in championing the initiative and also the State Council of Ulama and the Technical Working Group for their efforts in developing the program’s framework and materials.
“Let me also express my warmest appreciation and profound gratitude to the State Council of Ulamas as well as the Technical Working Group of the Program for coming up with the framework, guidelines, and numerous reference materials to be used in the implementation of the Programme. Your dedication and commitment are a testament to the power of collective efforts and our shared vision
The governor urged all participants to embrace the program wholeheartedly, stressing the importance of sincerity, good character, and patience in Da’awah activities, and encouraged them to embody the teachings of the Holy Qur’an.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting women’s development and called on religious and community leaders to sustain the momentum of the program across all local government areas.
“Let us approach this journey with open hearts and minds, knowledge and wisdom, ready to listen, learn, and teach others. In doing so, we will not only strengthen our own faith but also contribute to the greater good of our society,” he concluded.
