At least, two persons have reportedly lost their lives when a boat capsized as a result of torrential rainfall and windstorm in Miga local government area of Jigawa state

The Spokesman for the Police Command, DSP Lawan Shisu Adam, who confirmed the incident, in a statement on Tuesday said the incident, which occurred last Saturday, involved some farmers, who were returning from their farms.

The development is coming just as the command confirmed that another road linking the state capital with the neighbouring Birnin Kudu local government has caved in to fresh flooding.

According to him, “Nine farmers were returning from their farms between Galauchime to Sansani village in Miga LGA of Jigawa State.

“On reaching a river, they boarded a canoe paddled by one Ado Dan Maguga to sail to Sansan. Unfortunately, the canoe capsized, due to the rain and wind storm.”

According to the statement seven people were rescued while the other two were not lucky. The affected victims include Imran Rabiu 12 and Tasiu Rabiu, 14.

He said the corpses were found and released to their family for burial.

The statement quoted the Commissioner of Police of the command, Aliyu Sale Tafida as praying for the departed souls of the departed and equally sympathized with their family and relatives.

The latest road to be affected according to the police is Madobi-Baranda road in Dutse which has been serving the alternative route from the state capital to Birnin Kudu since the collapse of the main bridge linking Kano to northwest part of the country

He said the bridge across the road was also affected. With the latest development, motorists are now forced to take a longer route to Kiyawa before detouring to Bauchi

“Consequently, the Command is here by advising road users to seek alternative routes and people nearby should relocate to another and safer place,” the statement concluded.
