The members of the Governing Council of National Human Rights Commission are set to be inaugurated Monday, 2nd August, 2021.
The inauguration is coming after almost four years of waiting since 2018 when the NHRC Executive Secretary, Tony Ojukwu was appointed.
It would be recalled that the current Executive Secretary of the Commission, Tony Ojukwu, was appointment by President Muhammadu Buhari and he subsequently resumed duties in 2018.
However, since his resumption, Members of the Governing Council of the Commission had been awaited until March, 2021 when they were appointed by the President.
It is the expectation of citizens and other stakeholders that the coming of the Council Members will further strengthen the programmes and activities of the Commission towards the promotion, protection and enforcement of human rights in Nigeria.
In addition, with the appointment and inauguration of the board members, hopes are high that the members will explore opportunities and their respective contacts to attract proper funding of the agency to enhance execution of its mandates.
