The Director General of the Presidential Campaign of the Labour Party has disclosed how the Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu, turned down a proposed homage to his palace by the party’s Presidential Candidate, Peter Obi before proceeding for last Saturday’s mega rally held at Tafa Belewa Square (TBS) Lagos.
Akin Osuntokun, the Labour Party Campaigns Director General revealed that as it is traditional of Obi in any state he had been or visited to pay homage to the traditional ruler, he request to go an pay homage to the Oba, but Oba Akiolu said “We should not come”.
However, Osuntokun said as a Yoruba man, he was surprised at the response and insisted to know why the Oba doesn’t want to see them, but only to be told that “Oba Is Not Interested In Seeing Another Presidential Candidate Except Bola Tinubu.”
The full text of Osuntokun’s disclosure reads below:
We Informed Oba Of Lagos That Peter Obi Wants To Come and Pay Homage To Him Before Our Rally In Lagos But Oba Said That We Should Not Come.
As A Yoruba Man, I Tried To Ask The Reason For The Refusal But I Was Told That Oba Is Not Interested In Seeing Another Presidential Candidate Except Bola Tinubu.
I Was Not Happy Because Even In The North Where They Have 2 Presidential Candidates, Their Emirs Welcomed Us To Their Palace.
We Southerners Should Understand That Politics Is Not A War.
