The Jigawa state government has acquired the first and only private university, Khadija University, Majia for the sum of N 11 billion.
Located in Taura local government area, northwest of the state, the institution, which was opened to academic activities in August, 2021, was until yesterday established and owned by an Abuja-based Bureau De Change, (BDC) Operator, Alhaji Musa Adamu Majia.
The state Commissioner for Information, Sagir Musa Ahmed announced the development after the State Executive Council, (SEC) meetig on Wednesday chaired by Governor Umar Namadi.
The Council equally approved the sum of N 4.07 billion as 40% advanced payment to the owner of the university, with the pledge to pay the remaining 60% balance in two instalments.
The decision is coming barely four months after the state government raised two technical and administrative committees to work out the smooth take over of the institution.
Ahmed said the investment is in line with the administration’s 12-Points agenda to improve educational access and outcomes in Jigawa State.
According to him, “The Council has approved advance payment of 40% to the tone of Four Billion, Seventy Million Naira (N4, 070,000,000.00) only to the owner of the University, while the 60% balance to be paid in two installments as agreed between the two parties”.
Other approvals by the Council included the award of contract of the Construction of 89 no. Hand Pumps, 35 no. Solar Powered Water Collection Points, 1 no. Generator Powered Water Collection Point, Conversion of 1 no. Generator Collection Point to Solar Across 23 Constituencies of the State under the (2024 Constituency Project) amounting to over N411,8 million for various water projects across the State.
The payment of Counter Part Funds for the Federal Government Supported Partnership for the extended WASH (PEWASH) Programme to the tone N400, million to RUWASA project account.
The statement also announced that the government approved the purchase of additional 20 Combine Harvesters at the cost of N62, 388,936.40K which stands at N1, 247,778,728.00k).
Sequel to the approval for the purchase, the Council has also approved the advance payment of 30 N374, 338,618.40K to AGRA Consortium Company.
