Gov. Namadi Warns Chairmen Against Absenteeism, Corruption, Land matters.

Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa state has warned the newly elected local council chairmen against absenteeism and frequent traveling out of their stations, saying they were elected purposely to serve the people at the grassroots.

The governor, who gave the warning, while swearing-in the newly elected chairmen, including the first female vice chairperson, at the Banquet Hall Govt, House, Dutse also cautioned the chairmen against dabbling into land matters, stressing, that land issues were the exclusive preserve of the state governor.

He directed the local council bosses to live in their respective local government headquaters.

“This not the era of residing in Kano, Abuja or Dutse while you are the chairman of Buji, Guri or Kafin Hausa. You must stay in your area 24/7 as your attention is needed any time”.

“There are befitting local government council chairmen residences in all the 27 local government areas. Renovate them if they are in bad condition, but you must stay with your people in order to serve them very well.

“I will not tolerate abandoning your people for rampant and unnecessary travels, action will taken against any one,” Namadi emphasised.

“I’m warning all of you to avoid illegal allocation and selling of lands, grazing and forest reserves in your respective areas.

“All lands, forest and grazing reserves administration and power belong to governor, it is my jurisdiction. You don’t have any authority, unless you are so directed by me.

He directed the local council bosses to live in their respective local government headquaters.

“I will not tolerate abandoning your people for rampant and unnecessary travels, action will taken against any one,” Namadi emphasised.

The governor also ordered them to run an open government, and carry everybody along, including councillors and civil servants, and allow them to carryout their responsibilities at all times.

“I call on you to be fair and just
Discharge you duties and responsibilities with fear of God Almighty as you will be asked to account and depend all your actions and conducts”, he added.

Namadi appealed to the people to support and cooperate with the new local government councils in discharging their constitutional jobs in order to achieve the desired objectives.

The newly elected chairmen were sworn-in by the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Bello Abdulkadir Fanini.
