Federal Government Wednesday brought to an end several years of darkness in Adebayo community Ovia South East local government area of Edo state with the commissioning of 100KW solar hybrid mini grid.
While commissioning the project the Minister of State for Power, Mr. Goddy Jeddy Agba, noted that renewable energy solutions are what is needed to bridge the electricity supply gap in the country.
He assured the continuing commitment of the ministry of power in working with the legislative arm and critical stakeholders to create policies that will favour renewable energy investment, private participation through the rural electrification fund and Nigeria electrification project being implemented by the Rural Electrification Agency (REA).
According to the Minister, “The ministry will continue to create enabling environments and work with the legislative arm of government as well as all critical stakeholders to create policies that will favour renewable energy investments and private sector participation through the rural electrification fund as well as Nigeria electrification project implemented by the rural electrification agency.
“It is a continuous process that has shown promises. Therefore, we plan to do all that it takes to ensure that Nigeria’s massive renewable energy resources are efficiently utilized and evenly deployed across the nation.
“Though the electricity deficit has been an albatross for too long, we are positive that through these off-gid solution we will electrify rural communities across geographical regions of the country.
“Electricity is a continuous process We plan to do all that it takes to ensure that massive renewable energy are efficiently utilized and evenly deployed across the country,”
Earlier, the Managing Director/ Chief Executive, Rural Electricity Agency (REA), Mr. Ahmad Salihijo Ahmad, said the agency through the federal government Rural Electricity Fund (REF), will ensure electricity access to 12 communities through solar home system across the country..
He said: “Over 19,000 Solar Home System would be deployed to the communities.
“This project in partnership with Fanny Frank global resources limited was delivered under the first call of the federal government ‘s Rural Electrification Fund (REF), designed to promoted off-grid electrification and ensure that electricity is equitably distributed across Nigeria using data-driven off-grid solution.
“It is evident that our intervention in off-grid communities is key to accelerating true national development as great opportunities abound in communities such as Adebayo community.
“With the availability of sustainable and reliable energy these opportunities can be harnessed through the productive use of energy infrastructure.”
Earlier, the Chief Executive officer, Fanny Frank, Ugochukwu Emmanuel,
explained that the installed power plant has a total capacity of 100kW, 294 high grade solar panel, 72 batteries, 20 street lights and 27 kilometer distribution cable.
Also speaking, the community’s village head, Chief Lateef Agbaje commended the federal government for coming to the aid of the community.
He recalled that the community has been without electricity for decades until the recent intervention of the Federal government through REA.
Further, he expressed joy that with this electricity supply, socioeconomic activities of the people would be activated and their sources of livelihoods improved.
Those who graced the commissioning include the Minister of State for Power, Gody Jedy-Agba; chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Power, Magaji Da’u Aliyu and the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Rural Electrification Agency, Ahmad Salihijo Ahmad.
Others are Ugochukwu Emmanuel, MD/CEO of Fanny Global Resources Limited and the village head of Adebayo Community, Lateef Agbaje.
