FG Assures Utilisation Of Renewable Energy Resources To Power Off-Grid Areas

***Commissions 60kWp Solar Hybrid Mini-Grid In Obudu Ranch Resort

The Federal Government has assured that its efficient utilisation of Nigeria’s massive renewable energy resources to energise communities, schools, hospitals and businesses across Nigeria.

Minister of State for Power, Goddy Jedy-Agba, gave the assurance while commissioning of the 60kWp Solar Hybrid Mini-Grid in Obudu Ranch Resort, Obanliku Local Government Area, Cross River State.

This coincided with the ground breaking of 100kWp isolated Mini-Grid at Bottom hill community Obanliku LGA

He noted that it has become obvious that renewable energy plays a critical role in accelerating energy access across the nation.

Further, the Minister said the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) which is the implementing agency is mandated to explore these off-grid options in order to provide clean, safe and reliable energy to unserved and the underserved.

According to the Minister, “No stone will be left unturned in ensuring that unserved and underserved communities continue to enjoy basic amenities such as stable power. We must continue to leverage this clean, safe and reliable energy technologies

“I must also commend the commitment of the Rural Electrification Agency in the commencement and completion of several off-grid projects through the several programmes being implemented. Your achievements will never be erased from the history books of this great country”.

While commending the Cross River State Government for their support through the course of delivering the project, Mr. Jedy-Agba enjoined the Management of the Obudu Cattle Ranch to optimize the clean, safe and reliable energy to power the vital facility and make the best use of it for socio-economic impact.

On his part, the Managing Director of REA, Engr. Ahmad Salihijo Ahmad said the project was designed to energize and change the socio-economic status of the people of Obudu, adding that such projects were being deployed across all zones of the country.

He assured that more communities will be energized across the country under the different REA programmes in the coming months, just as the agency had commissioned several projects in the first quarter of 2021.

According to REA Managing Director, “It is evident that our intervention in off-grid communities is key to accelerating true national development. With the continued guidance of the Federal Ministry of Power as well as that of His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari, we will continue to lift up remote communities across the nation through the provision of clean, safe and reliable energy.”
