Energy Theft: Welder Bags Two Years Imprisonment In Keffi, Nasarawa State

Energy theft convict, Babangida Malle

 

A middle aged welder, Babangida Malle in Gauta, Keffi, Nasarawa state has bagged two years imprisonment for illegal consumption of electricity without payment.

The Presiding magistrate, Hon. Jibril Isah Shittu, at Chief Magistrate Court 2 Keffi, while sentencing the culprit, however gave him an option of N20, 000 fine.

In addition, the Magistrate awarded a compensation amounting to N30,000 payable to the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) by the convict for the electricity illegally consumed.

The Prosecuting Police officer, Inspector Ibrahim Kante had narrated to the court how the convict ( a welder) was arrested on 10/12/2020 hanging wire (i.e illegally consuming electricity) without payment and taken to keffi divisional police station.

On arraignment in court by the police, the convict pleaded guilty to the offence of Mischief contrary to section 286 (2) of the penal code law.
