EFCC Chairman, Magu

In order to allay public fears with regard to the status of recovered and seized properties by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the agency has disclosed the hiring of unnamed external auditors to audit the list before its official release to the public.
These were made known by the Chairman of the Commission, Ibrahim Magu, during an interaction with the leadership of Print Media Publishers Guild (PMPG) at the weekend.
Ostensibly, the audit will unravel the list of assets recovered, monies and properties seized and their owners, including those that have been disposed.
The value of the recovered loots are said to worth billions of Naira as the exact estimate is yet to be verified and ascertained.
Recall that President Muhammadu Buhari had hinted recently when he hosted some elders in Daura that the affected assets will be sold and proceeds deposited with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to prevent corrupt persons from re-acquiring them through the backdoor at the end of his tenure of office.
It will also be recalled that the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, had recently disclosed the various sums, in different currencies that were recovered between May 2015 and May 2016.
On his part, the Chairman of EFCC, Ibrahim Magu at the recent Senate hearing assured that the agency was still compiling the total recoveries, from 2015 to date.
