In a bid to promote insurance awareness in the nation, the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria has disclosed that it has distributed a total of twelve thousand copies of its textbook for senior secondary schools to various geopolitical zones of the country.
The CIIN President/Chairman, Sir Muftau Oyegunle made the disclosure at the institute’s post Annual General Meeting Press Conference Today at the Institute’s secretariat in Lagos.
During his speech, Oyegunle noted that the distribution was carried out through the ministry of education and directly to the school.
According to him, 70percent of the institute’s awardees passed the Certified Acturial Analyst (CAA) examination while plans are in place to register more students for October CAA 2021 examinations.
He said that all the tertiary institutions offering insurance in Nigeria, Cameroon and Gambia that had been reaccredited by the institute received donations of two sets of the CIIN course books to support and encourage the student members to take our examination.
He disclosed that the institute began the mentoring of young professionals under the CIIN Youth Mentoring program in March 2021.
“In the same vein, the maiden edition of the institute’s Quiz competition for secondary schools also took place on the 3Ed of June 2021 at the University of Lagos,” he added.
On the College of Insurance and Financial Management’s (CIFM) report, Oyegunle stated that the college commenced the NAICOM Certified Actuarial Analyst (CAA) Scholarship programme.
He said that 29 candidates passed the examination assessment for the scholarship out of which 22 commenced the CAA examinations inay 2021.
“In recognition of the standards of the college, the CIFM was appointed as the Externer Examiner for the Insurance Training College in Uganda, and it continues to perform this role till date,” he said.
In his optimism, Oyegunle said that there would be greater efforts towards the insurance awareness programmed and initiatives to other parts of the country, developing young talents in the insurance industry through the mentoring program.
He added that the institute and the CIFM will ensure that they deliver all programmed in line with global best practices.
