The proposed nationwide strike and protest by the organised labour led by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) against the arbitrary hike in electricity tariffs and fuel pump price has been suspended.
Also, the hike in electricity tariffs has been suspended although the current fuel pump price still remain unchanged.
These followed the outcome of negotiation meeting between leadership of NLC and the Federal Government held at the Presidential Villa, Abuja since yesterday till early morning of Monday, 28 September, the proposed date for the commence of the strike.
Further, a committee headed by the Labour Minister, Dr. Chris Ngige was constituted to look into “conflicting field reports justifying the hike in tariff”.
The meeting which culminated in the suspension of the strike was at the instance of the Federal government in its desperate bid to avert the strike after it had obtained to court injunctions baring Labour from embarking on the nationwide protests.
But NLC had insisted going on the protest unless government reversed the hike in electricity tariffs and petroleum pump price.
