Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa state has tasked Nigerians to continue to assist the country ex-service men to enable them live better lives.
Namadi, who made the appeal during the launch of the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Emblem appeal funds at the Council Chambers, Government House, Dutse, said Nigerians owed fallen heroes, some of whom paid the supreme for the peace and security of the country.
To demonstrate his commitment, the governor made a donation of N 10 million on behalf of the state government, followed by a personal donation of N 1 million.
The governor said it was imperative for Nigerians to continue to remember and honour the heroes who have made the supreme for the country.
“This group of individuals have contributed to the peace and whatever we’re enjoying as a nation. I therefore feel important to honour these people to ensure that they have a decent life like any other Nigerians because they have made a sacrifice for us and that’s why we’re enjoying the peace we’re enjoying today.”
He, however, called on well-meaning individuals and corporate organization’s to support the cause of the veterans by contributing generously towards their welfare.
Other major donours included the deputy governor Aminu Usman Gumel, the Commander 26 Armoured Brigade, Brig-Gen. Timinere J. Mackintosh, Commissioner of Police Jigawa Command, Ahmed Tijani Abdullahi donated N500, 000 each so also was the Chairmen of the 27 local governments councils in the state.
Similarly, the Secretary to the State Government, (SSG) Bala Ibrahim, the Head of Service (HoS) Muhammad Kandira Dagaceri and the Chief of Staff (CoS) Government House, Sen. Mustapha Makama Kiyawa donated N 300, 000 each
All the 16 commissioners in the Namadi cabinet donated the sum of N 100, 000 each amounting N 1.6 million among others donations which were announced.
The state chairman of the Nigerian Lagoon, Malam Aliyu Shehu expressed the gratitude of the organization for the assistance he’s been rendering to them.
Shehu, however, appealed to the state government to provide his body with office accommodation, functional vehicles and a plot of land to enable them build their permanent secretariat in the state.
