Again, Three Jigawa Lawmakers Booed At Govt/ Citizens’ Engagement

Again, at least three lawmakers representing various constituencies in Ringim local government area of Jigawa state received public disapproval from their constituents when they were booed at the resumed Citizens’ engagement programne tagged ‘ Gwamnati da Jama’a’ on Sunday in the headquarters of the council.

Prominent on the list of the politicians who were booed included the member representing the area in the State House of Assembly Hon. Aminu Sankara; the member representing Taura/Ringim Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon Sa’ad Wada Taura as well as the Senator representing Jigawa North West Senatorial District, Babangida Husaini.

Trouble started when the name of Sankara was called out to the podium to come and address the audience to outline his achievements. Though the lawmaker, generally known for vocal approach was not physically present at the jam-packed local stadium, the shout of “Bamuayi’ (meaning , we don’t want) rented the air.

Similar treatment was meted on both Taura and Sen. Husaini, who were physically present at the stadium and were presented from addressing the large crowd that gathered at the stadium to list their achievements.

It was gathered the development angered the Governor Umar Namadi, who was the Special Guest at the ok occasion, but he downplayed his reaction to the development.

Eyewitness accounts said the rep. member tried on several occasion to address the gathering, but each time he tried to address, the audience would spontaneously shout him down with Bamuayi’. At last he was found to abandon the speech to take his seat in the VIP area.

Similarly, Sen. Husaini from Kazaure local government area, who is the Chairman of the Senate Committee on North West Development Commission, (NWDC)
was not allowed to address the audience.

The alleged offences of the two federal lawmakers were the the people from that segment of their constituencies were not feeling the impact of their representations at Abuja. Indeed Sen. Babangida was specifically accused of concentrating his development projects in the nearby Gumel local government, which the headquarters of the senatorial district.

But the lawmaker could not be reached for their reactions last night. It would be recalled that the state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Muhammad Abdullahi Kainuwa and Director- General of the Youths Employment Agency, Dr. Ubale Kanya were given similar treatment at the stage of the exercise in Birnin Kudu LGA in February this year.
