The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) has dismissed petition in circulation and accused the authors of undermining existing communication line available for addressing grievances.
It further said that it is already investigating and addressing issues raised by the petitioners through a civilized process.
In a statement by the General Manager, Corporate Communications, Oyebode Fadipe, on behalf of the management, AEDC accused the petitioners of being hasty and surreptitious in their approach.
The full text of the statement reads: “The attention of our management has been drawn by well meaning personalities to the circulation of a document purportedly written by some persons who describe themselves as *Concerned Staff of AEDC* wherein they made some baseless and unfounded comments about certain number of issues.
“Although preliminary evaluation shows that the petition is malicious and libelous, a team has been put together to investigate the route cause and intent of the authors.
“This is in consonance with tradition of Management to subject matters of this nature to the crucible of comprehensive scrutiny since becoming aware of the existence of the document.
“The investigation was still going on when the authors, certainly unsatisfied with the initial circulation, decided to circulate it on the social media.
“As a management, we would have been far more delighted if the authors had shown greater courage by taking advantage of the open door policy of the Board and Management to discuss the issues openly so that their minds can be disabused. But they did not do that. Rather they chose to be surreptitious in their approach.
“For observers and stakeholders, AEDC has as part of its internal communications tool a time tested and honoured periodic staff meeting with the Management and Board members where speaker after speaker is given unconditional opportunity to air their view(s) in order to provide everyone with the opportunity to contribute his or her own quota to the Management of the Company.
“Not that alone, our Board has continually encouraged the Management team to build a robust industrial relationship through scheduled and unscheduled meetings with the two in house unions. This has been the tradition, which can be verified
“The idea of an anonymous petition is therefore a negation of the company’s culture of open door policy that the Board and Management have built over the years.
“Notwithstanding the circulation of the document, we like to assure all members of staff, our well wishers and members of the public who may have come in contact with the document that we remain focused in our journey towards the total transformation of AEDC.
“We shall not relent in building a family where things work and where performance is of world class level.
AEDC Management”
