The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) on Wednesday released the results of 1,834,695 candidates who sat the 2026 Computer-Based West African Senior School Certificate Examination (CB-WASSCE), while withholding the results of 167,486 candidates over alleged examination malpractice.
The Council also disclosed that the results of 116,031 candidates are yet to be released as they are still being processed following issues currently being resolved.
Announcing the release of the results at a press briefing in Lagos, the Head of the Nigeria National Office of WAEC, Dr. Amos Josiah Dangut, said 1,950,726 candidates sat the examination out of the 1,959,668 who registered from 24,207 secondary schools across the country.
According to him, 1,834,695 candidates, representing 94.05 per cent of those who sat the examination, had their results fully processed and released, while 116,031 candidates, representing 5.95 per cent, still have one or more subjects being processed.
Dangut assured affected candidates that efforts were ongoing to resolve the outstanding issues and release the pending results within a few days.
He disclosed that 167,486 candidates, representing 8.59 per cent of the total number of candidates, had their results withheld over reported cases of examination malpractice.
The figure, he noted, represents a decline from the 9.7 per cent recorded in the 2025 WASSCE, indicating a 1.11 percentage point reduction in malpractice cases.
According to Dangut, the increasing use of mobile phones in examination halls despite the existing ban, as well as organised cheating in some schools, remained major challenges confronting the conduct of the examination.
He said all reported malpractice cases were being investigated and would be presented before the appropriate committee of the Council for consideration, adding that decisions reached would be communicated to the affected candidates through their schools.
Dangut added that candidates dissatisfied with decisions on malpractice cases could seek redress through the Council’s complaints portal.
On candidates’ performance, WAEC disclosed that 1,200,514 candidates, representing 61.54 per cent of those who sat the examination, obtained credits in at least five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics.
However, the Council said the performance represented a 1.42 percentage point decline compared with the 2025 examination.
Overall, 1,687,378 candidates, representing 86.50 per cent, obtained credit passes in at least five subjects, with or without English Language and Mathematics.
Dangut also disclosed that 1,213 candidates with special needs participated in the examination, comprising 137 visually impaired candidates, 491 with hearing impairment, 55 spastic and mentally challenged candidates, and 41 physically challenged candidates, adding that adequate arrangements were made for them and their results were released alongside those of other candidates.
He urged candidates whose results had been released to access them through WAEC’s results portal after generating their Result Checker PIN and Serial Number via the Council’s digital certificate platform.
The WAEC boss, however, reiterated that results of candidates sponsored by state governments indebted to the Council would not be released until the outstanding payments were made, appealing to the affected states to settle their obligations to enable the candidates access their results.
