The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has boosted its Katampe Abuja substation capacity from 450MVA to 750MVA and urged the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company to offtake more power for distribution to its franchise areas.

This was as it commissioned a 300MVA 330/132kV power transformer at its Katampe 330/132/33kV Transmission Substation, Abuja at the weekend, increasing the substation’s capacity from 450MVA to 750MVA.

The Company explained that the upgrade means TCN now has more power available at Katampe Substation for Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) to offtake for onward distribution to consumers in Abuja and environs, according to a statement by the TCN General Manager Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the General Manager (Transmission), Abuja Region, Engr. Musa Shuaibu, noted that the installation and commissioning of the transformer underscores TCN’s commitment to the continuous expansion of the transmission network.

This, he said, will support increased power delivery, enhance overall grid stability, and facilitate better electricity supply to distribution load centers nationwide.

The project was executed under the TCN-World Bank collaborative initiative, which is part of strategic efforts to rehabilitate and expand the nation’s transmission network.
