The Jigawa State Governor Umar Namadi yesterday signed the state’s 2026 Appropriation Bill into law pledging effective implementation of the bill for the best interest of the people.
The signing is coming barely one month after the governor presented the 2026 budget to the State House of Assembly for consideration and approval, the state lawmakers on Tuesday passed the bill.
The Bill was passed into law on Tuesday during the plenary session following the presentation of the report by the Chairman of the Appropriation Committee of the House Hamza Ibrahim Adamu representing Malam Madori State Constituency in the House.
It would be recalled that Governor Namadi had on Tuesday November 25 presented the budget proposal of N 901.8 billion for the state and N 288.8 billion on behalf of the 27 local government cojncils of the state for the 2026 fiscal year.
In a speech shortly after appending his signature, the governor who described the budget as the “Citizens’ budget” said it was the outcome of the recently concluded citizens engagement tagged Gwamnati Da Jama’a assured that it would meet the yearnings and aspirations of the people of the state.
According to him, “This budget is a budget that belongs to the people it is exactly what they ask us to do is what we’re doing in this budget.”
“Though this budget is ambitious, but I can assure you that it is doable with the support of our lawmakers and all the citizens of the state and other stakeholders.”
Speaker of the Jigawa State House of Assembly, Aliyu Dangyatim, while announcing the passage of the budget during a plenary session on Tuesday, said “the budget has been approved as presented, with a total sum of N901.841 billion.”
According to Dangyatim, the budget allocation is strategic, with capital expenditure getting N693.4 billion.
Earlier, Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriation, Ibrahim Hamza Adamu, while presenting the committee’s report during the plenary session, praised the budget’s focus on key sectors like education and agriculture. “This budget prioritises development and will transform Jigawa,” Adamu said.
Ibrahim Hamza Adamu highlighted agriculture’s significant funding, including N75 billion for food and livestock.
