The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) has given indebted electricity consumers up till Monday, June 3, 2024 to offset their debts or face being cut off from power supply.

AEDC Head, Marketing and Corporate Communications, Adefisayo Akinsanya signed a notification to this effect to all customers with outstanding bills to settle their accounts immediately to avoid service disruption.

“To this end, customers who are yet to settle their outstanding bills within the next 72 hours, by Monday, June 3, 2024, will face disconnection of their electricity supply”, the notification read.

This is even as electricity consumers with unresolved outstanding issues with the AEDC have raised objection, insisting that the AEDC should endeavor to resolve their complaints on many months of blackouts before embarking on the proposed exercise as scheduled.

The Pikwoyi community residents reminded AEDC that “Before now, we had registered our displeasure and agonizing situation as far as power outage and transformer issue is concerned.

“With respect to the new order aiming towards disconnection exercise by AEDC dated May 30th 2024, we appealed that we be exonerated owing to the peculiarity of our own challenges compare to others”, they appealed in a reminder to AEDC signed by Agatha Chitumu on behalf Pikwoyi Community.

However, the AEDC emphasized the importance of adhering to payment deadlines to ensure efficient and reliable service.

It said: “The timely payment of electricity bills remains crucial for the continued operation and enhancement of AEDC’s infrastructure, which is essential for delivering uninterrupted service to the community.

“Deadline for Payment: All outstanding bills must be paid within 72 hours of this notice, by Monday, June 3, 2024.”
