The Jigawa state Commander of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Musa Mala has begun an investigation into the case of alleged breach of agreement by some wheat farmers in the state
The development followed complaints by the leadership of the state chapter of the Wheat Farmers Association of Nigeria, (WFAN) against some of its members during a courtesy visit to the Commandant of the Corps Musa Mala in his office
WFAN chairman in the state Mustapha Ubayi Ringim, who led other executive members of the association, recalled that the association had distributed seeds, fertilizers, pump generators, pesticides among others to wheat farmers in 2021 with an understanding to provide in return wheat equivalent to the monetary value of the items supplied to each farmer to the association after harvest
But he noted that most farmers have unfortunately not complied with the agreement, prompting the visit to the command to solicit the intervention of the corps with a view to facilitating the recovery of the loan.
According to Ringim, the recovery of the facilities would afford other people with the opportunity of benefitting from the loan facilities in future. Therefore, he hoped that, the command would assist the association towards the recovery of the loan facility given to wheat farmers in the state
In his response, the commandant expressed delight for the visit and promised to assist where necessary.
He described the situation as tantamount to breach of contract and sabotage to government policies and programs aimed at improving the standard of living of the citizenry.
He also frowned at those that collected and disposed off the items, describing such as an act of fraud, since it was clearly spelt out in the contract agreement that the items were not meant to be sold.
He promised to direct relevant offices in the Command to critically look into the matter with a view to addressing them.
