PenOp Sensitizes Women On Overcoming Biases In Workplace

In a bid to ensure gender equality in the pension industry, the Pension Fund Operators Association of Nigeria (PenOp) has urged women in the industry to strive for positive contributions to the industry and national development.

This is just as the association revealed its plan to launch pension women’s network for effective interaction amongst women in the Industry.

Penop made the revelation during a webinar recently organised in March to celebrate this year’s Women International Day with theme ‘Overcoming Biases in the Workplace’

The association chose female leaders in the Industry as panelists to sensitize women in the Industry on the need to rise above bias and ensure productivity.

The panelists included Idu Okwuosa; CEO of Access PFC, Joy Ojakovo General Manager at Progress Trust CPFA, Ighojovbe Oghenekaro CEO of Agip pensions, and Blessing Ogwu CEO of UBA Pensions.

According to Idu, women should be able to discover themselves and inculcate a ‘Can Do’ attitude adding that people will entrust duties and positions to you when they know your capabilities.

“Take the highway, choose your fight and don’t let the distractions get to you and you’ll make it to the top. ’As a woman, you can’t do it alone, you need to build alliances, have a support structure to be able to grow and to lean on when need arises,” she said.

The CEO of UBA Pensions, Blessing Ogwu urged women to be career ready and be relevant in the Industry “make yourself relevant so that the job you are doing will feel you and you feel the job”

On Distractions, CEO of Agip pensions, Ighojovbe Oghenekaro stated that distractions can slow down the development process, she urged that women should learn how to avoid distractions and be ready to add values at any given opportunity.
