In less than a week, the power sector has recorded yet another national peak generation of 5,520.40MW as at 30th October, 2020 even as the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) complains of load shedding in some areas of its franchise.

The new peak record on 30th October, 2020 surpassed the previous 5, 459MW recorded on 28th October, 2020 by 60.90MW.

The TCN General Manager (Public Affairs), Mrs Ndidi Mbah explained that the new national peak was as a result of continued collaboration among players and the gradual increase in capacity in the power sector.

“On her part, with the current capacity of 8,100MW, TCN seamlessly transmitted the new peak at a frequency of 50.11Hz. through the nations grid.

“As players in the power sector value chain continue to work together to improve the nation’s power supply, TCN implores everyone to help protect power infrastructure nationwide and desist from bush burning or burning of trash beside transmission towers or under power line cables nationwide”, she said.

However, the management of AEDC has explained the reason for the load shedding experienced by its customers in some locations, saying it was occasioned by the fault on one of the 60MVA transformers at the TCN 2 x 60MVA station at Kubwa, Abuja.

They affected locations are Kubwa, Diedie, Lower Usman Dam, Bwari, Dutse, Dawaki; 3rd Avenue, 69 Road, 64 Road, 62 Road, Gwarinpa; Sunshine Estate, Map Global Estate, I pent Estate, Queens Estate; Kafe Gardens 1, 2&3. Efab Estate; Home Security Estate, Fine Estate, Macopoli Estate, Marine Estate, Adkan Estate, Verozone Estate, Justice Estate, Davis Estate and Police Estate.

“While acknowledging that the TCN enforced load shedding has the potential of disrupting the socio-economic activities of its customers as well as its own obligations towards the market, AEDC said it is working with the TCN on how to speedily resolve the issue especially because of the onset of the dry season, which it says will have serious effects on the comfort of the customers.

AEDC subsequently appealed to all affected customers to please bear with it as it works assiduously with the TCN to ensure the restoration of normal power supply to the affected customers.
