The Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) has intensified processes of computing pension benefits and entitlements of  19,561 verified former staff of some defunct and privatised federal government agencies.

This follows the successful verification exercise carried out in fourth quarter of 2017 and first quarter of 2018 by the Parastatals Pension Department (PaPD) for pensioners of some defunct and privatised agencies.

According to a statement by the PTAD Head of Corporate communications, Harriet Agbenyi, the Directorate has continued the computation of pension benefits and related entitlements due   to   regular   pensioners   and   Next   of   Kin   (NOKs)   to   qualified   deceased   pensioners respectively.

She gave statistics on the total number of verified former staff, number of agencies and timelines for the completion of the on going computations as follows: Nigeria Reinsurance,  371 (28th June 2018); Delta Steel Company,  4,261 (3rd July 2018); NICON Insurance,   1,211 (4th July 2018);  NITEL 13,718 (7th August 2018).

Out of the total of 19,561 former staff of the aforementioned agencies being computed, NITEL former staff topped with 13,718.

She said: “So   far,   the   Directorate   has   completed   the  computation   and   enrolment  of   pensioners   of Federal Housing Authority (FHA) and Nigerian Defence Academy – Civilians onto monthly pension payroll since April 2018.

“Presently,   the   computation   of   the   pension   benefits   of   the   pensioners   of   the   remaining Agencies are on-going, and  the applicable completion timelines are as stated”.

It would be recalled that the Executive Secretary of PTAD, Mrs Sharon Ikeazor, had earlier in the year given assurances that no genuine pensioner would be left out of the verification exercise.

She further gave indications that as soon as computation of the pension benefits and entitlements were concluded and the funds were made available, the Directorate will effect payment to the beneficiaries.
