The Nigerian Insurers Association (NIA) has trained more than 171 drivers and dispatch riders from its member companies on sustainable eco-driving, vehicle maintenance, and fuel efficiency.
The association made the revelation in a press statement signed by its Head, Corporate Communication/Brand Management, Ajoke Adeyemi.
The training, held on February 22 and 23 at the Insurers House, Victoria Island, Lagos, was facilitated by experts from the Lagos State Drivers Institute (LASDRI) and the Vehicle Inspection Service (VIS). It focused on the theme: “Sustainable Eco-Driving: Balancing the Environment, Equity, and Economy.”
Speaking at the event, Ms. Rose Okonkwo, Head of NIA’s Training Unit, emphasized the role of eco-driving in reducing road accidents and enhancing safety.
She noted that the program equipped drivers with skills to improve vehicle longevity and instill better driving attitudes, ensuring compliance with road regulations.
LASDRI General Manager, Mrs. Tiamiyu Afusat, described the training as essential for promoting a safer driving culture among professional drivers in the insurance sector. She stated that LASDRI’s collaboration with NIA aims to shift drivers’ mindsets and enhance service delivery.
Afusat also urged corporate organizations to invest in similar training to improve road safety and operational efficiency.
Participants underwent hands-on training, eye tests, and a computerized board assessment conducted by LASDRI. They were also awarded certificates of attendance and LASDRI re-certification cards.
The initiative aligns with NIA’s commitment to safety, environmental responsibility, and efficiency in Nigeria’s transportation sector.
