Following the rising cases of insecurity amongst Nigerian students, the management of Lagos State University (LASU) has applied more stringent efforts to ensure the safety of her students and studies are carried out in a conducive environment.
The Varsity deployed an application called the LASU Monitor Safety App to enhance the security in and out of the campus.
This is just as the Vice Chancellor, LASU, Prof Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello announced Today that a total of 6, 377 students were cleared and matriculated for various courses into the institution.
Bello made the announcement while addressing the newly admitted students at the university’s 2021/2022 Matriculation Ceremony held Today in Lagos.
The VC revealed that out of over 25, 000 applicants, the institution received 8,000 admission quota, offered 7,800 students admission into the university, however, not all accepted the admission.
“I just cleared another 109 students for admission this morning before the ceremony so when you sum that up we shouldbe havingupto 6500 students now” she said.
Admonishing the students on good morals, the vice-chancellor, warned that the institution has zero tolerance for all forms of social vices including examination malpractice, fighting, drug abuse, hooliganism, sexual and gender-based violence and indecent dressing, among others.
She stressed that the university frowns at all of them and therefore would not spare from punishment any student found culpable of any of the vices.
Speaking on security, Bello who described the newly developed security app as a one shop safety measure urged the newly admitted students to key into the app, adding that it was part of the steps to improve on the welfare of the students.
According to her, the students need not to stress themselves but only download the app and log in with their students’ information to enjoy the benefits.
Furthermore, she added that the institution has also put in place physical measures to ensure that her students especially those who would love to read at night, she revealed that there are 24hrs CCTV cameras mounted all over the university vicinity and two control rooms managed by security staffs of the institution.
She said, “All we want to achieve as a university is to prepare you very well as future leaders so as to be able to contribute substantially irrespective of your disciplines to the economy of Lagos State, Nigeria and the world by extension.”
In a bid to woo the students into becoming world class scholars, she iterated the university’s decision of 50 percent refund of school fees if they should maintain a minimum of 4.5 CGPA from a 5.0 obtainable score at the end of each academic session and for the duration of their courses.
Expressing Excitement, One of the matriculating students of Health Education deparment, Faculty of Education, Ochendu Isioma said she feels welcomed into the institution as the admission processes were seamless and easy.
“For those who desire to gain admission into LASU, they should keep pushing on because when they make it here, they will be very happy they chose LASU” she said.
