The Jigawa state government has rolled out a new campaign strategy to compel parents in the state to return their children and wards back to school.
To this end, begining from next term all senior political appointees in the state as well as all the local government chairmen have been directed to queue into the state’s Back-to-School campaign as part of the efforts to address out-of-school syndrome in the state.
The initiative is a follow-up of a presentation by the chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) Prof. Haruna Musa to the state Executive Council ( SEC) meeting in Dutse.
To give a bite to the directive the Council raised two committees fir effective implementation of the directive. They included a Steering Committee, which is headed by the Commissioner for Basic Education, while the SUBEB boss heads the Technical committee.
The state commissioner for information, Sagir Ahmed Musa in a statement in n Dutse said both committees were responsible for coordinating, supervising, and ensuring statewide implementation of the programme.
To strengthen the campaign, the commissioner quoted the the state governor Umar Namadi as directing that senior political appointees, including the Secretary to the State Government, (SSG) Chief of Staff, (CoS) Commissioners, Special Advisers, Technical Advisers, Director-Generals, and Executive Secretaries, must each facilitate the return of at least 100 out-of-school children in their respective communities.
In the same vein, all Senior Special Assistants, (SSAs) and Special Assistants, (SAs) must each ensure the return of a minimum of 50 children to school.
“Similarly, all the 27 Local Government Chairmen must personally ensure that not fewer than 1,000 children in their LGAs return to school before the commencement of the 2026 second academic term”
The governor remarked that the directive was central to the administration’s drive to reduce the number of out-of-school children, improve access to quality basic education, and strengthen human capital development.
He urged all government officials, community leaders, parents, and stakeholders to collaborate to guarantee that every child in Jigawa State has the opportunity to learn and thrive.
At the meeting the SUBEB boss presented the updated Back-to-School Campaign Implementation Framework, aimed at accelerating enrolment, retention, and transition of children in basic education across the state.
