The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has joined the global community to commemorate International Humanitarian Day, a day set aside to recognize the sacrifices and contributions of humanitarian workers around the world.
The Executive Secretary of the Commission Dr. Tony Ojukwu in a statement to commemorate the day emphasized the crucial role that humanitarian workers play in providing life-saving assistance to millions of Nigerians affected by conflict, displacement, and natural disasters.
He said these dedicated individuals often risk their lives to provide food, shelter, healthcare, and other essential services to those in need, often in extremely challenging and dangerous environments.
“The NHRC acknowledges the invaluable contributions of humanitarian workers in Nigeria, who have been at the forefront of responding to the humanitarian crisis in the Northeast, as well as other parts of the country” Ojukwu said.

“As we honor the memory of humanitarian workers who have lost their lives in the line of duty, we also recognize the many more who continue to work selflessly to alleviate human suffering”.
“We pay tribute to their courage, compassion, and dedication to upholding the fundamental human rights of all individuals, regardless of their background or circumstances” he added.
Dr. Ojukwu called on all Nigerians to join the Commission in recognizing the vital role of humanitarian workers and to support their efforts to protect and promote human rights in our country.
