Thirteen-year-old Rhema-Love Abraham from Precepts Learning Field, Lagos, has emerged winner of the 2025 Heirs Insurance Essay Championship, earning a ₦5 million scholarship and a ₦1 million grant for her school.
The competition, organised by Heirs Insurance Group, seeks to promote financial literacy and academic excellence among secondary school students across Nigeria.
This year’s edition attracted over 5,000 entries from junior secondary school students nationwide on the topic, “The Role of Insurance in Keeping Families Safe and Secure.”
At the grand finale held at the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja, Bernice Michael of S-TEE High School, Lagos, came second with a ₦2 million scholarship, while Afopefoluwa Tofio-Jacobs of D-IVY College, Ogun State, placed third, receiving ₦1 million.
For the first time, the organisers introduced a Teachers’ Insurance Awareness Prize, which went to Mr. Okpe James Chidi of Urban Secondary School, Umuna Orlu, Imo State.
He received ₦1 million and a ₦500,000 school grant for his efforts in promoting insurance education among students.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Niyi Onifade, Sector Head, Heirs Insurance Group, commended the participants for their creativity and drive.
“Their innovation and curiosity reflect the kind of future we envision for Nigeria one built on knowledge, empowerment, and resilience,” he said.
Now in its fourth year, the Heirs Insurance Essay Championship has become a flagship CSR initiative of the group, aimed at building awareness of insurance and financial inclusion among young Nigerians while encouraging teachers to play a key role in driving literacy across communities.
