A former member of the House of Representatives from Jigawa State, Bashir Adamu Jumbo has joined the race for the governorship of the state on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party, (PDP’) come 2023.

He is challenging Mustapha Sule Lamido, the son of the former governor of the state, who had March 24, declared his intention to succeed governor Muhammad Badaru Abubakar, in 2023 on the same PDP platform.

Confirming this in a radio programme monitored in Dutse on Jumbo, who represented Kazaure//Gwiwa/ Roni/Yankwasi Federal Constituency for 16 years, between 1999-2015, hinted that he had purchased both the governorship nomination and expression of interest forms.

He explained that he joined the governorship race as a result of persistent pressure him in the last six months or so to do so by his supporters and political associates across the state. He said he had spent the last two and a half years reflecting on his political journey and at a time thought of quitting the stage, but noted that the more people kept piling pressure on him to throw his hat into the ring.

According to him, “After two and a half years of my silence, nobody has heard from me either on the radio or on social media, now the time for politics has come. People have been calling on me to come and contest.

“I have come across various categories of people and in some cases, even people that do not know me and I have been weighing all the calls. As a human being, I have my pitfalls that I’m not up to the state that people are taking me.

“I have been reflecting on the fact that my life revolves around politics to the level that ok be is beginning to think of withdrawing and face the family issues and other personal business, but the calls have not stopped as people have been calling on me to come out and contest.

“Now I have obtained the forms because of the pressure that I have been under in the last six months or more from supporters and we’ll wishers because in whatever I do I put myself last, the people come first in my life.

“Well God knows that left to me, I’ll not venture into it, but because of the pressure that people have been piling on me, I felt I should not disappoint them because it would amount to betrayal of confidence of your supporters and we’ll wishers.”
