Presidency has warned members of the National Assembly against refusal to subject themselves to Coronavirus screening at airports on return from foreign trips.
The warning is against the backdrop of reports that some legislators were skipping Coronavirus screening at airports on return from foreign trips.
President Muhammadu Buhari, Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari, who handed down the warning via a letter to the Senate President and copied to the Speaker of House of Representatives, specifically frowned at the House members refusal to subject themselves to Coronavirus pandemic screening.
He said such refusal is tantamount to “threat to our nation.”
According to the letter of 21 March, 2020, endorsed by the Chief of Staff, “It has been brought to the Honourable Minister of Health recently reported to this office that some members of the House of Representatives are refusing to subject themselves to medical screening at airports
“As you are aware, these airport screenings are our primary line of detense and refusal by any citizen to subject to these tests is a threat to our nation.
“Accordingly you are kindly requested to direct all members of the House of Representatives who returned to Nigeria from foreign trips to report themselves to the nearest NCDC test centre with immediate effect.
“As always distinguished President of the Senate. please accept the assurances of my highest regards.
