An era in the coaching job of Nigeria’s Super Eagles has just ended as AFCON 2023 silver winning coach, Jose Peseiro, announces his resignation.
With this, three coaches have handled the Super Eagles within a space 13 years. These include Lars Lagerback (Sweden) 2010, Gernot Rohr (Germany) 2016-2020 and José Peseiro (Portugal) 2022, who just resigned.
The Portuguese disclosed his end of engagement with the Super Eagles on his X handle, formerly Twitter, on Friday.
According to Peseiro, who said his leaving Super Eagles job was concluded yesterday, Thursday, “Yesterday, we concluded our contract with the NFF. It was a pride and honor to coach the Super Eagles. It has been 22 months of immense dedication, sacrifice, emotion, and enormous enthusiasm. We feel a sense of fulfillment.
“We would like to express our gratitude to Sir Amaju Pinnick (the president who signed us), President Ibrahim Gusau, General Secretary Mohammed Sanusi, Secretary Dayo Enebi, the NFF, all the Staff, and especially all the PLAYERS, with whom leading has been a great pleasure.
“Guys, we are thankful; it has been a privilege to be part of this family. We will miss you, but we will always be there for you, no matter where you are. A big hug to all of you.”
He accompanied his post with the recent emotional pictures of his with the Super Eagles including the last reception held for the team at the Presidential Villa Abuja by President Bola Tinubu.
