Amidst speculation of possible defection to the opposition African Democratic Congress (ADC), the immediate past Defence Minister and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, has revalidated his membership of the APC.
The re-validation which took place at his Kofar Kudu Ward in his local council of Babura Jigawa state at the weekend witnessed a large turnout of political supporters, where the former minister used the occasion to pledge his unalloyed loyalty and recommitted his determination to work for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
But Abubakar, who is also the immediate past governor of the state was, however, silent on the re-election bid of Governor Umar Namadi, his successor.
Analysts see the development as a recipe for a possible re-ignition of political showdown between the two political leaders in the state.
The former governor, who suddenly “resigned’ his ministerial position on December 1, 2025 on health ground has been out of circulation for a long time, prompting rumours of his possible defection to the ADC. Abubakar reportedly returned to the country early last week.
The Personal Assistant to the former minister on Media and Publicity Mati Ali in a statement in Dutse said event, attracted a massive turnout of party faithful and supporters, marking the official presentation of his membership card following the successful completion of his recent online registration and validation process on the APC platform.
According to the statement, “Supporters from across Babura and neighbouring communities gathered in solidarity, demonstrating strong backing for the Badaru political movement and reaffirming their commitment to the party.
“The presentation ceremony followed the established party protocol. The APC Chairman of Babura Ward, Alhaji Danbaba Tela Babura, initially handed the validated card to the Babura LGA APC Chairman, Alhaji Isha Ubale Giginya, who subsequently presented it to the former minister at the instance of the Jigawa State APC Chairman, Alhaji Aminu Sani Gumel.”
The occasion was witnessed by prominent party stakeholders, such as the state Chairman of APC, Aminu Sani Gumel, the outgoing APC National Financial Secretary,, Bashir Usman Gumel; immediate past Speaker of the Jigawa State House of Assembly, Idris Garba Jahun; members of the Jigawa State House of Assembly; former local government chairmen who served during Badaru’s tenure as governor; members of the Babura LGA APC Executive Committee; ward officials; and other APC leaders and well-wishers from across the state.
In his remarks, Badaru reaffirmed that Nigeria stands with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He warmly welcomed supporters to Babura and expressed appreciation for their presence at the ceremony.
The former minister commended party leadership at all levels for the seamless validation process and expressed pride that the state remains among the leading states in achieving impressive results in the ongoing membership registration exercise.
He also thanked the people for the love, solidarity, and trust they have consistently shown him, urging them to remain patient and steadfast, with the assurance that better days lie ahead.
The event is widely regarded as a strong demonstration of unity and sustained grassroots support for the APC in Jigawa State, further consolidating the party’s structure ahead of future political engagements.
