The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) and electricity consumers in Mararaba, a border community in Nasarawa State near the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja have agreed on modalities of improving their daily power supply from 6-8 hours.

This followed concerns expressed by the customers on reduction in power supply to the community.

According to the AEDC General Manager, Corporate Communications, Oyebode Fadipe, the modalities agreed upon by the two parties include that the community should draw up the list of of unmetered customers for metering as means of resolving estimated billings.

Further is that the community association working in concert with the AEDC will identify and remove customers who are feeding from additional sources as it constitute danger to the network, community and workers.

Fadipe who said that AEDC agreed to maintain constant communication with the community through their leaders, however lamented that currently there is limitation on further increase in hours of power supply to the community following restriction from the Transmission source.

He said, “The area ought to be fed from a 2 x 60MVA transmission station but what we have is a 1 x 60MVA, which is a source of limitation from the source.”

Prior to the meeting at AEDC Corporate Headquarters, some residents of Mararaba had staged a peaceful protest over inadequate power supply and over billings.
