Dr Cosmas Ilechukwu, General Overseer, Charismatic Renewal Ministries, has called on the political leaders and Nigerians to be responsible to their duties in building the nation of everyone’s dream.
Ilechukwu spoke on Sunday in Abuja at a Special Prayer Service for Nigeria and its Leaders organised by The Change We Need Nigeria Initiative (TCWNNI).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the event is an annual programme organized by TCWNNI.
The cleric called on Nigerian leaders to adopt long-term development plans and strengthen institutions to accelerate nation building.
Ilechukwu, the convener of TCWNNI, urged political leaders to be visionary and ensure that rule of law prevails at all levels of government.
Besides, he said Nigerian leaders must ensure resource management and optimisation, and transparently handle public funds.
“However, no matter how well-intentioned the government is, it cannot do much without the active, positive participation of the people,” he said.
The cleric, who is also the Deputy President, Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), said Nigerians must complement government’s effort in building a virile nation.
“Citizens must live up to their responsibility. They must be law abiding, vote in elections and do several other things expected of a citizen.
“People who are interested in nation buiding must be intentional about social cohesion.
“They must be ready to hold their leaders accountable if they are interested in nation building, demand transparency and reject vote buying,” he said.
According to him, national development requires a joint effort between the government and citizens, with both sides committed to law and order.
Ilechukwu, who described nation building as a partnership between the government and the people, maintained that government alone should not shoulder the responsibility of nation building.
He cited Nehemiah in the Bible, stressing that nation builders must remain focused even in the face of opposition because nations are built systematically and gradually.
NAN observes that prayers were offered for Nigeria, its leaders and the citizens, including the forthcoming 2027 general elections.
