The Corporate Affairs Managers Committee of the Nigerian Insurers Association (CAMCONIA) has elected Bankole Banjo, Marketing and Corporate Communications Manager at SanlamAllianz Nigeria, as its new chairman, with a pledge to strengthen strategic communication and public trust in the insurance industry.

Banjo, who succeeds Segun Bankole, whose tenure lasted from December 2023 to September 2026, was inaugurated alongside other members of the new executive committee following elections held at the NIA House in Victoria Island, Lagos.

Other elected officers are Rachel Owolabi, Head of Marketing and Customer Experience at emPLE Nigeria, as Vice Chairman; Niyi Abiola, Head of Corporate Services at Leadway, as General Secretary; and Nancy Peter, Corporate Affairs Manager at Linkage Assurance, as Assistant General Secretary.

In his acceptance speech, Banjo described his appointment as a collective responsibility, stressing the need for corporate communicators to play a more strategic role in shaping industry decisions and business outcomes.

He unveiled the S.O.A.R. agenda, which focuses on strategic visibility, open communication, authentic camaraderie and responsible professionalism, as the guiding principles of his administration.

According to him, corporate affairs managers must move beyond executing routine communication tasks to becoming active contributors to industry discussions and decisions, given their influence on corporate reputation, public perception and business performance.

Banjo said the new executive committee would work towards strengthening the role of corporate communicators in advancing the industry’s objectives and fostering greater collaboration among member companies.

In his valedictory address, the outgoing chairman, Segun Bankole, urged the new executive committee to sustain the collaborative foundation established during his tenure, particularly amid the evolving digital communications landscape.

He called on members to look beyond their individual corporate interests and work towards projecting a unified insurance industry narrative built on trust, innovation and resilience.

Bankole also proposed expanding CAMCONIA’s membership to accommodate sales professionals, noting the relationship between brand management and commercial growth.

The new chairman brings more than 15 years of experience in corporate communications, reputation management and brand strategy across multiple sectors.

Before joining SanlamAllianz Nigeria, he held communications roles at African Alliance Insurance Plc, FBNInsurance and the African Business Coalition for Health, an advocacy organisation established through an initiative of the Aliko Dangote Foundation in conjunction with the Global Coalition for Health.

Banjo is an alumnus of Olabisi Onabanjo University and holds an executive master’s degree from the Metropolitan School of Business and Management, United Kingdom. He is also an associate of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations and the National Institute of Marketing of Nigeria.

The new executive committee is expected to pursue initiatives aimed at supporting the insurance industry’s broader objectives, deepening insurance penetration and strengthening public confidence in the sector.
