The vice-presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2027 election, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has expressed confidence that the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, will honour his pledge to serve only one term in office before handing over to a candidate from Northern Nigeria.

Obi had previously made the commitment, citing the longstanding, though unwritten, understanding of the rotation of the presidency between the North and South.

With President Bola Tinubu, who is from the South, expected to complete one term in 2027, the former Anambra State governor has argued that serving a single term, if elected, would uphold the spirit of the rotational arrangement.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday, the former Kano State governor said he has no doubts about Obi’s commitment to the agreement.

Kwankwaso also disclosed that both men formally documented the arrangement, stating that Obi signed an agreement committing to a single four-year term if elected president in 2027.

He said he believes Obi will keep his word and respect the understanding reached between them. -Channels
