Incoming Chairman of the Nigerian Insurers Association (NIA), Mrs. Ebelechukwu Nwachukwu, has intensified consultations with key stakeholders across the insurance value chain ahead of her formal investiture, reaffirming her commitment to fostering a more unified and collaborative insurance industry.

Nwachukwu, who is also the Managing Director of Rex Insurance Limited, undertook a series of strategic engagements with major industry bodies, including the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN), the Nigerian Council of Registered Insurance Brokers (NCRIB), the Association of Registered Insurance Agents of Nigeria (ARIAN), and the Young Insurance Professionals (YIP), as part of efforts to build consensus around her proposed agenda for the industry.

Speaking during the engagements, Nwachukwu said meaningful growth in the insurance sector could only be achieved through stronger collaboration among underwriters, brokers, agents, regulators, and young professionals.

“The level of alignment and willingness to collaborate across the sector is truly encouraging. As we prepare to assume leadership at the NIA, my focus remains on driving innovation, enhancing capacity, and ensuring that every stakeholder has a seat at the table. Our collective success depends on our ability to work together to grow the industry,” she said.

At the NCRIB, where she was received by the Council’s President, Mrs. Ekeoma Ezeibe, discussions focused on strengthening the relationship between brokers and underwriters as a strategy for deepening insurance penetration across the country. Both parties emphasized the need for closer cooperation to drive industry growth.

During her visit to the CIIN, Nwachukwu held discussions with the Institute’s President, Mrs. Yetunde Ilori, and other council members on professional development, ethical standards, and leadership capacity building. She stressed the need to move beyond certification-focused learning towards developing well-rounded insurance professionals capable of driving innovation and growth.

The incoming NIA chairman also met with the leadership of ARIAN, where issues bordering on agents’ welfare, compensation structures, retirement benefits, and industry recognition featured prominently. She pledged to promote a more inclusive environment for insurance agents while encouraging greater adherence to professional and regulatory standards.

In a separate engagement with members of the Young Insurance Professionals, Nwachukwu identified talent development, mentorship, technology adoption, and career growth as critical priorities for the future of the industry. She noted that investing in young professionals would be central to her planned two-year tenure.

The consultations, which come ahead of her investiture as the 27th Chairman of the NIA, ended with a shared commitment among stakeholders to deepen collaboration, strengthen professionalism, and support initiatives aimed at expanding insurance penetration and enhancing the sector’s contribution to Nigeria’s economic development.
