Universal Insurance Plc, the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), the Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD), and Rite Foods Limited have been announced as official sponsors of the 2025 Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Nigerian Association of Insurance and Pension Editors (NAIPE).
This year’s AGM is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at the Nigerian Insurers House, Victoria Island, Lagos.
NAIPE serves as the umbrella body for journalists reporting on the insurance and pension sectors in Nigeria. Its AGM, held annually in July, offers sponsoring organizations a unique opportunity to showcase their products and services to members of the association. These members, in turn, amplify the sponsors’ brand visibility through extensive media coverage, including news reports and in-depth analyses across various platforms. Typically, stories from the AGM remain in the media spotlight for over a month.
Universal Insurance Plc is one of Nigeria’s largest personal lines insurers, boasting assets exceeding N8 billion. The company offers eight major insurance product lines, including auto, property, and commercial insurance. With a focus on both corporate and individual clients, Universal Insurance is known for its innovative service delivery and comprehensive range of non-life insurance solutions.
According to the company, “Our vision is to be a dominant, specialised non-life insurer in Nigeria, creating and delivering value to stakeholders, while our mission is to offer specialised non-life insurance protection inspired by innovation, efficiency, and prompt claims settlement.”
The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) was established through the National Health Insurance Act signed into law on May 19, 2022, replacing the 1999 Act that birthed the former National Health Insurance Scheme. As of today, NHIA covers approximately 20 million Nigerians. The authority offers a wide range of benefits, such as financial protection against high healthcare costs and improved access to quality medical services through its comprehensive benefits package.
PTAD (Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate), created in 2013 under the mandate of the Pension Reform Act 2014, is responsible for managing pensions under the Defined Benefit Scheme (DBS). This applies to retirees who left public service on or before June 30, 2007, and are not part of the Contributory Pension Scheme.
PTAD has played a key role in reforming Nigeria’s public pension administration, addressing inefficiencies inherited from multiple legacy pension offices including the Police, Customs, Civil Service, and various Parastatals. By 2004, disjointed pension management had led to liabilities exceeding N2 trillion.
At the helm of PTAD is Executive Secretary Tolulope Abiodun Odunaiya, appointed in November 2024 by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Odunaiya brings a track record of delivering measurable outcomes in complex administrative systems.
Rite Foods Limited, makers of Bigi Drinks, Fearless Energy Drinks, Sosa Fruit Drinks, and Rite/Bigi Sausage Rolls, is also among the sponsors. Under the leadership of CEO Mr. Seleem Adegunwa, the company continues to champion innovation, especially in sustainable practices.
As a leading player in Nigeria’s food and beverage industry, Rite Foods is committed to empowering recyclers particularly in coastal communities by promoting modern, efficient plastic recycling techniques, among other Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives.
