Following threats of resumption of suspended industrial action, the management of Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) has pledge to attend to the grievances of the electricity sector unions.
Two labour unions in electricity supply industry, the National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) and its senior counterpart, the Senior Staff Association of Electricity and Allied Companies (SSAEAC) had on Wednesday given AEDC two-week ultimatum within which to accede to their demands failure of which would compel them to resume their suspended industrial action over breaches of contractual agreements.
The unions, NUEE and SSAEAC, have respectively resolved to resume their earlier suspended strike over non-implementation of agreements reached with the AEDC since November 5th, 2024 and 27th of November, 2024, respectively, despite
AEDC’s record of increased cash collection of over N98 billion within the last three months.
Responding Thursday, the AEDC management in a three-paragraph statement by the Managing Director/CEO, Eng. Chijioke Okwuokenye, assured the company’s committed to ensuring that “all legitimate allowances owed to staff are settled promptly, subject to our financial processes and regulatory compliance.”
The full text of the statement reads:
“Management has been engaging constructively with the union representatives regarding the notice of industrial action. We are committed to ensuring that all legitimate allowances owed to staff are settled promptly, subject to our financial processes and regulatory compliance.
“We have already initiated dialogue with the union leadership to address their concerns transparently and to seek a mutually agreeable resolution. We are confident that, through continued negotiation and open communication, we will find a way to avert any disruption to our operations and to uphold our commitment to the welfare of our employees.
“Our employees are at the heart of all we do and their wellbeing and well fare is paramount to management.
AEDC MD/CEO
