The Jigawa and Sokoto state governments have pledged to collaboratively work together to fastrack the development the two states, especially in the area of agriculture.
Governors Umar Namadi and his Sokoto state counterpart, Dr. Ahmad Aliyu made the pledge when the latter paid a condolence visit to the Jigawa helmsman, who recently lost his father-in-law on Sunday.
Aliyu, who addressed newsmen after the closed door meeting explained that because of the strategic relationship existing between the two states, there was the need for them understudy one another in order to enhance the development of the two states.
Gov. Aliyu described his Jigawa state counterpart as the closest to him among his peers in the country. He added that aside from the close relationship between them, their two states share a lot especially on issues that brother on the development of their states.
To give a vent to their resolve, a delegation of civil servants from Sokoto state led by the Commissioner of Agriculture would visit Jigawa state in the coming week to understudy the success of agriculture in Jigawa so that same could be replicated in Sokoto.
“Already, I’ve told the governor about about the impending visit from Sokoto to Jigawa because we believe this is the way we can attract development to our states. It is not surprising to s a governor sending a delegation to another state to see how things are done because it is through this kind of exchange of ideas that successes can be attained.”
In the area of security Gov. Aliyu expressed confidence that with the strategies out in place by the Northern States Governors’ Forum in general and Northwest Governors’Forum, citizens and residents of the zone would soon start noticing a difference.
His words, “Between myself and the governor of Jigawa, we’re like brothers, we do a lot of things in common. In-fact, I can say that he’s the closest person to me among my governor colleagues in the country.
“We have our Northern States Governors’ Forum and our geopolitical Governors’ where we made the Katsina State governor as our interim leader so anything you hear from any one of us whether from the governor of Sokoto or Kebbi covers all of us because we speak the same language and we’re on the same page as far as the issue of security is concerned.
“But one thing that I would like to guarantee the citizens and residents in the zone is with the strategies we’re putting in place for which I will not disclose here, they’ll soon beg to heave sigh of relief God’s willing.”
