The Lagos State University has said that 57 out of its 14,369 Graduands set for the 23rd convocation will bag first class honours as against 26 Students who bagged first class honours at 22nd convocation, 2018.
The Vice Chancellor, Lagos State University, Professor Olarenwaju Fagbohun SAN said this today at the press briefing heralding the institution’s 23rd convocation.
Optimum Times reports that the 23rd convocation which commenced today with a press briefing will continue on Friday May 10 and run till Thursday, May16, 2019.
According to the VC the University in its 36year history have not recorded this number of first class Graduands “This year’s convocation ceremony is a very unique and special one. It is so because our world class students in their habit of healthy rivalry to be the best at what they do, have pushed themselves so hard that at this year’s Convocation we will be graduating fifty seven (57) first class students. Never in the history of the Lagos State University have we had it so good.” he said
“Two graduands, Ridwan Oladotun OLA-GBADAMOSI from the Faculty of Engineering and Nneka Karen ENUMAH of the Faculty of Science graduated with a CGPA of 4.88 to emerge as the overall best graduating students.”
On the increase of number of first class Graduands he explained “Last year we have 26 first class Graduands and this year we have 57, that is the product of the quality of assurance we are talking about and also the fact that every hook and crannies of our university, they have keyed into the vision of what we want to achieve for ourselves that is why you see everyone running on that same pitch, activities are ongoing in all our campuses that is why you see our students competiting with themselves, you see intra-competition and inter-compitition, when you want to sharpen yourself you sharpen yourself to be the best and that is what we have been doing.”
Recall, In 2018 the University subsequently called on graduates who are yet to collect their certificates to come for collection between Monday, 12th November, 2018 and Tuesday, 1st January, 2019.
During his address Fagbohun stated “If you are a graduate of LASU and you have not collected your certificate it is because you are not interested in that certificate, All certificates are ready and that is why we have created a platform during this period, about 10 days for those who are interested to collect their certificate to come and collect it, the only thing is that you will pay penalty because there was a period of three months for the collection, so if you didn’t utilize that opportunity you will pay a penalty.”
