Ahead of 2023 general election, the Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike has strategically appointed 14,000 advisers for various political units in the state.
According to a statement signed by the Governor’s spokesperson, Kelvin Ebiri, the advisers will play a pivotal role in the administration.
OPTIMUM TIMES recalls that Governor Wike had been at loggerheads with his party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leadership and the Part’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar over non-resignation of the party’s National Chairman, Sen. Iyorchia Ayu.
Wike had subsequently, boycotted the party’s Flag off campaign held in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
With the latest appoints within six months before he vacates office in May 29, 2023, opinions are that the appointments were strategic to securing the votes of his state for his favoured presidential candidate.
“In addition to the 14,000 advisers, Governor Wike has also appointed 319 Ward Liaison Officers and 40 Local Government Area Liaison Officers,” Mr Ebiri said.
“The appointments are with immediate effect.”
