A total of 192 students have graduated with First Class Honours from Lagos State University (LASU) as the institution prepares for its 28th Convocation Ceremony.
The Vice Chancellor of the institution, Professor Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello made the revelation at the press conference of the 28th Convocation ceremony held at the university’s premise, Ojo, Lagos.
According to Olatunji-Bello, the overall best graduating student for the 2023/2024 academic session is Nwosu Isioma Sybil from the Biochemistry Department with a CGPA of 4.93.
Among the 8,711 students earning first degrees, 3,076 graduated with Second Class Upper Division, 4,397 with Second Class Lower Division, 990 with Third Class, while 39 students finished with a Pass.
Additionally, 17 students obtained Unclassified Degrees in Medicine and Dentistry (MBBS/BDS).
For the Diploma programmes, LASU is graduating 971 students, including 123 with Distinctions, 550 with Upper Credit, 287 with Lower Credit, and 11 with a Pass.
“The institution is also awarding 2,235 postgraduate degrees, comprising 302 Postgraduate Diplomas, 1,132 Academic Master’s degrees, 639 Professional Master’s degrees, 125 PhDs, and 37 Professional Doctoral degrees,” she said.
As part of the convocation ceremony, LASU will confer Honorary Doctorate degrees on Brigadier General Buba Marwa (Rtd.), Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and former Military Governor of Lagos State, as well as Otunba Olufemi Olusegun Pedro, former Deputy Governor of Lagos State, in recognition of their contributions to the university and the nation.
Additionally, Professor Joseph Abayomi Olagunju will be elevated to the rank of Distinguished Professor.
The convocation celebrations are scheduled to take place from April 4 to April 10, 2025, featuring events such as the Convocation Lecture, Cultural Festival, and the formal award of degrees.
