The University of Abuja “UniAbuja” has elected six members drawn from both Senate and Congregation, in accordance with the Universities (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act and the University’s governing statutes, into its 11th Governing Council.
This followed a successful conduct of Senate elections held during its 90th extraordinary meeting on Thursday 26 June 2025 on the main campus, according to a statement by the University.

Following the keenly contested process, the following professors emerged as representatives of Senate to the Council:
Prof. Sunday P. Ejaro (Department of Geography, Faculty of Social Science ), Prof. Abdulhamid Ozohu-Suleiman (Department of Public Administration, Faculty of Management Sceinces), Prof. Ashom M. Maisamari (Department of Arts and Social Sciences, Faculty of Education), and Prof. Simon Enem, Department of Public Health, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine).
Similarly, two representatives of the Congregation to the Council have also been elected. They are Dr Patrick Uju of the University Health Centre and Professor Musa Olaofe of the Department of Islamic Studies.
Both elections were well attended, reflecting the strong institutional commitment to inclusive governance, academic leadership and a tranquil learning environment.
The elected members will join the four external members of Council recently appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, under the chairmanship of Senator Dr Olanrewaju Tejuoso.
The external members are Professor Rosemary Iriowen Egonmwan (South South), Dr Adedeji Adefuye (South West), Professor Sarki Abba Abdulkadir (North West), and Professor Aminu Mohammed Dukku (North East).
The Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Patricia Manko Lar, who presided over the elections, congratulated the newly elected representatives, expressing confidence in their ability to contribute meaningfully to the governance and growth of the University.
“We are proud of the transparent and inclusive process through which members of Senate and Congregation have elected their representatives,” said Lar, adding that “The University looks forward to working with the full Governing Council to advance its mission of academic excellence and national service.”
The full Governing Council, comprising both internal and external members, is expected to be formally inaugurated next week.
