Rivers State is set to witness one of its most ambitious real estate transformations as construction formally kicks off for the PH AirportCity project, a master-planned mini city designed to deliver more than 3,000 modern housing units alongside integrated commercial and lifestyle infrastructure.
Developed through a public–private partnership between the Greater Port Harcourt City Development Authority (GPHCDA) and the Real Estate Developers Association of Nigeria (REDAN), the project signals a new push to address the state’s housing deficit while restoring investor confidence in Port Harcourt’s real estate market.
Speaking during the project briefing, representatives of FHA Mortgage Bank confirmed that prospective homeowners will have access to flexible financing options, including Rent-to-Own schemes, renovation loans, diaspora mortgage packages, and National Housing Fund facilities with repayment tenures reaching up to 30 years.
The financing structure is expected to make the homes accessible to middle-income earners who have long been priced out of quality developments in the state.
Administrator of the GPHCDA, Bennett Chu, said the state government took a firm stance on quality, subjecting every component of the development to rigorous vetting before approval.
According to him, Rivers State is determined to attract investors by ensuring that all construction meets global best practices. He noted that the government is not only focused on housing delivery but on building a sustainable community that can stand as a regional benchmark.
The PH AirportCity, strategically located near the Port Harcourt International Airport, is being positioned as a secure, technology-driven lifestyle destination. Planners say the project will feature modern road networks, green spaces, commercial zones, recreational areas, and round-the-clock security, offering residents an elevated standard of living in a controlled environment.
As construction gains momentum, the mini city is expected to reshape urban living in Rivers State, expanding the Greater Port Harcourt vision and unlocking new economic opportunities.
The first sets of housing units will be delivered in phased batches, marking the beginning of what stakeholders describe as a new chapter for Port Harcourt’s residential development landscape.
