The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has alerted the public on its website being compromised by yet to be disclosed persons.
In a late Wednesday night terse statement, NBS warned the public to “disregard any messages or reports published on the website until further notice”.
It said that its team has moved into action “to resolve the issue and restore full functionality.”
OPTIMUM TIMES reports that NBS had on Tuesday released NBS’s latest Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report on Nigeria.
Among other things, NBS revealed that “The average amount paid as ransom was ₦2,670,693, with an estimated total ransom of ₦2,231,772,563,507 paid within the reference period,” of between May 2023 and April 2024.
The statement reads:
“The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) wishes to inform the public that its website has been compromised. Our team is actively working to resolve the issue and restore full functionality. We advise the public to disregard any messages or reports published on the website until further notice. Thank you for your understanding.”
