The proxy political war in the ruling All Progressives Congress, (APC) in Jigawa state took a different dimension as Kafin Hausa, the home town of Governor Umar Namadi was turned into a scene of bloody clash as rival factions disagreed.
Trouble started when suspected political thugs disrupted a rally organized by the youth group Kafin-Hausa community to honour a chieftain APC, Zakari Sidi Kafin-Hausa and declared support for President Bola Tinubu for the 2027 election.
However, the group was silent about Namadi, who is from the area. Besides, Kafin Hausa, who, over the years has been a protege of Namadi, resigned suddenly from his position as the Special Adviser to the governor.
The event attended by the National Financial Secretary of APC Bashir Gumel, took place at the Kafin Hausa Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
Politicians at the event, who are mostly officials who served under the former Governor Badaru, now Minister of Defence, commended the community for honouring Kafin Hausa for his philanthropic activities across the state.
He told newsmen after the event that the gathering was also meant to declare support for President Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima, ahead of the 2027 general elections but intruders later invaded the venue with arms, attacking people.
Kafin-Hausa said members of the APC and supporters of the Minister of Defence who are working vigorously for the success of President Tinubu in the 2027 election gathered in Kafin-Hausa town in solidarity for the twin event.
At the same time, a faction of the party, which was said to comprise supporters of the governor held an event, when a chieftain of the party from the nearby Taura local government, Alhaji Musa Majia opened a campaign office for Tinubu and Namadi ahead of 2027 election.
However, a factional supporters of another APC group allegedly invaded the venue of the event, injured many and vandalized vehicles. The faction of the party loyal to the governor reportedly viewed the gathering as an affront to the governor, who also hails from Kafin-Hausa town.
“The sponsored hoodlums’ attack came after the dignitaries had left the venue. Initially, the event was supposed to be held on Saturday but was rescheduled to Sunday, to avoid confrontation, yet they attacked our supporters, injuring many innocent people and vandalising their properties, Alhaji Sidi lamented.
When contacted, the spokesperson to the State Police Command, SP Lawan Shi’isu Adam promised to get back, but at the time of going to press, he had yet to respond.
The gathering was the first of its kind in the state, where APC faithful gathered in a parallel rally declaring support for President Tinubu without declaring such to Governor Namadi, who is also a member of the party.
The event also exposed the deepening crisis between Governor Namadi and the Defence Minister Badaru. The APC had earlier denied a rift between the Governor and the Defence Minister.
Former and serving officials who attended the event include members of the state House of Assembly, from Hadejia, Gagarawa and Babura and 14 former local government chairmen, including former ALGON chairman Bala Usman Chamo.
